Gwen Smith: Of All The Girls, I’d Pick You
It’s so encouraging to me as a young mom to talk to other moms who have been through what I’m going through. I never feel like I’ve got this “mom thing” figured out, so it’s great to talk to someone who has survived the early years and who’s working hard to pour into her teenage daughter and show her the love and support that she needs. I never had that emotional connection with my mom, and that’s what I so desperately want for my relationship with Rooney.
Gwen Smith. Where to start? She sings, she writes songs, she writes books. Inspired by a song she wrote years ago, she has a new book out called “Broken Into Beautiful.” Oh, the lyrics of this song hit me hard because they are what we not only need to hear once, but we need the constant reminder of who God is and what He has for each of us.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if our girls knew this? If they believed it? If they let this truth enter into their hearts and never let it escape? I pulled so many thoughts and ideas away from this episode, and most of them have to do with simply telling my daughter these truths and talking about them when her life and circumstances try to steal them away.
Gwen said something awesome today that I want to think about more. She said she tells her daughter, “If all the girls in the world were lined up together, and I was allowed to choose only one, I’d pick you.” God did that for us; He chose us to be the parents to our kids. A needed reminder for the days when I feel like an idiot, when I feel like I’m making mistakes, when I feel like I’m not doing this job right.
